The essentials at a glance
- You can spot the best studio by ten verifiable criteria, not by rankings or the lowest promotional price.
- Mandatory since 31.12.2020: NiSV certification for anyone operating a laser; in NRW, the district governments are responsible.
- Compare the price of the whole series for the full zone: 8 to 12 sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart is realistic.
- Red flags: no wavelength specified, no skin type check, pressure to buy, promises for every hair colour.
- Laserazor Düsseldorf opens in January 2027 at Elisabethstraße 30; until then, register for your 0 € trial session.
The short answer: what makes a good laser studio
You'll get the best laser hair removal in Düsseldorf where a specialist with verifiable NiSV certification uses a laser with the right wavelength, checks your skin type and does test pulses beforehand, cools the skin before every pulse, and quotes a fixed price per full zone.
The lowest price on a billboard tells you very little. In Düsseldorf, you'll find three types of providers: dermatology clinics billing according to the medical fee schedule, chains and beauty salons that often use IPL or diode lasers and advertise prices for tiny areas, and studios with Alexandrit and Nd:YAG lasers, which are less common. You'll find good and bad work in all of these groups. That's why rankings won't help you, but criteria you can check yourself will.
Laserazor is opening a studio in January 2027 at Elisabethstraße 30 in Unterbilk. So we are a provider ourselves. The ten criteria below are still written so you can apply them to any studio, including us. At the end, we're completely open about where we meet them and what we can't say yet before opening.
Ten criteria to check for a good laser studio
Every criterion can be checked with a simple question: on the phone, during the consultation, or at the latest during your trial treatment. A good studio will answer all ten without dodging. The first three are about your safety, the next three about your money, and the last four about the quality across the whole series.
- Verifiable NiSV certification. Since 31 December 2020, the NiSV has required anyone using a laser or IPL for hair removal to prove their certification. Enforcement is up to the federal states; in Nordrhein-Westfalen, the district governments for occupational health and safety are responsible. Anyone operating lasers for hair removal commercially must notify the relevant authority before starting operations. So don't just ask if the studio is 'certified', but whether the person treating you can actually prove their certification. What the regulation means in NRW is explained in our guide NiSV in NRW: Who is allowed to operate a laser?.
- Device class and wavelength. 'We do laser' is not a proper detail. A good studio will tell you the device type and wavelength: Alexandrit at 755 nm, diode at 800 to 810 nm, or Nd:YAG at 1064 nm, as classified by Ibrahimi and colleagues in 2011. IPL is not a laser, but a flashlamp with a broad spectrum of light. Also ask if the device is classified as a medical device. A studio with two wavelengths available can treat light and dark skin with the right light for each. The difference is explained in our guide Alexandrit or Nd:YAG, and the comparison with flashlamps on the IPL hair removal page.
- Skin type check and test pulses before the first session. The six skin types according to Fitzpatrick 1988 determine the wavelength and energy. Alexandrit is suitable for light to medium skin, Nd:YAG for dark and tanned skin. The Federal Office for Radiation Protection lists redness, pigmentation changes, and burns as risks, especially if the wrong energy is chosen. A good studio will therefore ask about sun exposure, medication, and skin conditions, and perform a few test pulses before treating the full zone. You can find out which wavelength suits which skin type in our guide Laser selection by skin type.
- Prices per full zone instead of tiny areas. Many offers quote a price for a small area that has little to do with the zone you actually have in mind. Always ask: What exact area is included, what does the full zone cost, and what is the price for the whole series? At Laserazor, every price applies to the full zone. Underarms cost 79 € for a single session and 48 € per session in a pack of 10, making ten sessions 480 €. For comparison: dermatology clinics usually bill underarms according to the medical fee schedule (GOÄ) at around 90 to 150 € per session, often without any package discount.
- Packages with a suitable validity period. Because a zone requires 8 to 12 sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart, a series takes around one to one and a half years. A package that expires after just a few months doesn't fit this rhythm. Ask about the validity period, what happens to unused sessions, and whether you can switch studios. Our packages of 3, 5, or 10 sessions are valid for 24 months across all studios and reduce the price per session—by 20 to 45 percent in a pack of 10. For a total price of 300 € or more, you can pay in 12 instalments at 0 %, and for multiple zones, we offer the VIP flat rate from 109 € a month.
- Trial session with no obligation. You'll only know how the laser feels on your skin and how your hair reacts after the first treatment, as it takes two to three weeks to fall out. A good studio gives you this time and won't pressure you into signing up for a package on the same day. At Laserazor, this means: a skin type check, test pulses and a complete zone for 0 €, with no purchase and no subscription. In Düsseldorf, the 0 € trial session is available from opening day – until then, you can pre-register.
- Cooling with every pulse. Cooling protects the top layer of skin while the energy travels to the hair root, making the pulse much more bearable. Ibrahimi and colleagues describe it as an integral part of safe laser hair removal. Ask how they cool the skin and whether the cooling happens before every pulse or just afterwards with an ice pack. Even with cooling, a pulse feels like a quick, warm pinch. You can find out how this feels for each zone in our guide Low-pain laser hair removal.
- Visible hygiene. The treatment bed, handpiece and contact surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected after every appointment, and the bed should have a fresh cover. For zones like the bikini line and intimate area, a private room is also a must. Pay attention to whether the practitioner asks about inflammation, herpes or open sores in the zone before the treatment. If they don't ask these questions, they probably pay less attention to details in general.
- How to read reviews. Stars alone don't tell you much. Read the written reviews, check if they are spread out over many months, if someone describes a whole series of treatments, and how the studio responds to criticism. A newly opened studio won't have its own reviews yet, so it's worth looking at the provider's other locations. There are no reviews for Laserazor Düsseldorf yet. Across all existing studios, we have 5,0 stars from 3.266 reviews on ProvenExpert and over 2.600 Google reviews.
- Honesty about limitations. A good studio will tell you upfront what the laser can't do: grey, white and light blonde hair won't react, and red hair only partially. Hormonal changes can trigger new growth later on. 8 to 12 sessions are realistic. The Cochrane review by Haedersdal and Gøtzsche 2006 found around a 50 percent hair reduction up to six months after treatment for Alexandrit and diode lasers; long-term data over years was missing at the time. Anyone who promises you completely smooth skin after just a few appointments is promising too much. What "permanent" really means is explained in our Permanent hair removal fact check.

The first criterion is the most important. Without NiSV certification, no one is allowed to use lasers for human hair removal, no matter how good the device is. A reputable studio will show you their credentials without you having to ask twice.
Appointment checklist
The quickest way to spot a good studio is during the consultation before your first treatment. Take these questions with you, ideally on your phone. You don't have to ask all of them, but there should be a clear answer to each one.
| Question for the studio | Good answer | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Who is treating me, and does this person have NiSV certification? | a named practitioner, proof provided upon request | "Well, the device is certified." |
| Which device, which wavelength? | Device type and wavelength in nm, such as 755 or 1064 nm | ‘a modern laser’ without a number |
| How is my skin type determined? | Consultation, Fitzpatrick skin type, test pulses | straight to the full area without questions |
| How much is the complete zone? | fixed price per zone, individually and in a package | price for a partial area only |
| How long is the package valid? | duration that suits 8 to 12 sessions | expires after a few months |
| Can I try it first? | trial treatment with no obligation to buy | discount only if you book on the same day |
| How is it cooled? | Cooling immediately before each pulse | just a cooling pack afterwards |
| How are the treatment bed and handpiece cleaned? | Cleaning and disinfection after every appointment | evasive answer |
| How many sessions do I need? | 8 to 12, depending on the area, hair and hormones | "You'll be done in three sessions." |
| Will the laser work on my hair? | honest assessment, including a no for grey or light blonde hair | promising results for every hair colour |
If a studio is evasive about two or more questions, it's worth having a chat somewhere else. A trial treatment with a good provider won't cost you anything but your time, and that's time well spent before you commit to a package for a year or a year and a half.
Red flags: when to walk away
Some signs are enough to make you leave a studio before the first pulse is even fired. The more of them you spot, the easier your decision will be.
- No answer about their qualifications. If they can't or won't show proof, they probably don't have it.
- Treating freshly tanned skin without asking. Tans and sunburns increase the risk of pigmentation changes. A good studio will ask and either choose the right wavelength or reschedule.
- Pressure to sign. Discounts that are 'only valid today', a contract before your first treatment, long terms with full upfront payment and no trial treatment.
- Price without area. An offer where it's unclear which area is included often gets more expensive at the appointment.
- Limitless promises. "Works on every hair colour" or "done in three sessions" just isn't true.
- No eye protection. During laser hair removal, everyone in the room wears suitable protective goggles.
- No health questions. Medications that make your skin sensitive to light, pregnancy, and skin conditions in the treatment area must be discussed before your first session.
- Treating over tattoos and moles. A good studio avoids them because their pigment also absorbs the laser light.
Comparing prices fairly: the whole series counts
The total series price is the amount you pay for all sessions on one zone until it's permanently¹ smooth; this is the only way to truly compare offers.
A single price is only half the story. Because each zone needs 8 to 12 sessions, it's best to calculate with ten sessions and the price of a 10-session package. At Laserazor, prices are the same across all studios, including in Düsseldorf.
| Zone | Duration | 1 session | Pack of 3, per session | Pack of 5, per session | Pack of 10, per session |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Upper Lip | 10 min | 59 € | 49 € | 39 € | 37 € |
| Underarms | 10 min | 79 € | 65 € | 51 € | 48 € |
| Bikini Area | 10 min | 99 € | 81 € | 63 € | 59 € |
| Full intimate area (women) | 15 min | 149 € | 121 € | 93 € | 86 € |
| Full Legs | 45 min | 319 € | 257 € | 195 € | 180 € |
| Full Back | 40 min | 269 € | 217 € | 165 € | 152 € |
Excerpt from the price list featuring all 31 zones. Prices are per complete zone and are the same in all studios, including in Düsseldorf.
Here's what the comparison looks like for underarms: Ten sessions in a 10-session package cost 480 € with us. At a dermatologist's clinic charging 90 to 150 € per session, ten sessions add up to around 900 € to 1.500 €. For offers on tiny areas, it's worth asking how many of these areas your underarm actually consists of and whether the price applies to every session. For large zones, the series counts even more: full legs cost 180 € per session in a 10-session package, making ten sessions 1.800 €. For a small zone like the upper lip, it's 370 €.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I recognise the best laser studio in Düsseldorf?
By ten verifiable points: proven NiSV certification, specified wavelength, skin type check with test pulses, prices per complete zone, packages with a suitable duration, trial treatment with no obligation to buy, cooling with every pulse, visible hygiene, transparent reviews and honesty about limitations. A studio that avoids two or more of these points isn't the best choice.
Does every specialist in Düsseldorf need to have NiSV certification?
Yes. The NiSV has been in effect nationwide since 31 December 2020, and certification is mandatory for hair removal with laser and IPL. In Nordrhein-Westfalen, the district governments for occupational health and safety are responsible for enforcement. Ask to see the credentials of the person treating you.
Is a dermatologist automatically better than a laser studio?
Not automatically. You belong at a dermatologist if you have skin conditions in the zone, take light-sensitising medication or have hormonally abnormal hair growth. For healthy skin, what counts is certification, wavelength, skin type check and cooling. Medical practices bill according to GOÄ, usually around 90 to 150 € per session for underarms, often without a package discount.
What's better: Alexandrit, diode, Nd:YAG or IPL?
That depends on your skin and hair. Alexandrit with 755 nm suits light to medium skin, Nd:YAG with 1064 nm suits dark and tanned skin, diode lasers work with 800 to 810 nm. IPL is a broad-spectrum flashlamp and not a laser. Studios with two wavelengths can treat all six skin types with the right light.
Why are very cheap offers often more expensive?
Because the price often only covers a small area or a single session. A zone needs 8 to 12 sessions, so what really counts is the price of the full course for the complete zone. At Laserazor, ten underarm sessions in a package of 10 cost 480 €, and your first session is the 0 € trial session.
How many sessions are realistic?
Usually 8 to 12 sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart, which takes about one to one and a half years. The laser only targets hairs in their growth phase, so every zone needs multiple rounds. If your hair growth is hormonal, you might need a top-up session later on.
How much does laser hair removal cost at Laserazor Düsseldorf?
The same as in all Laserazor studios: underarms are 79 € for a single session and 48 € per session in a package of 10, bikini line is 59 €, full intimate area is 86 €, and full legs are 180 € per session in a package of 10. Packages are valid for 24 months, and for a total price of 300 € or more, you can pay in 12 instalments at 0 %.
Are there any reviews for Laserazor Düsseldorf yet?
No, the studio doesn't open until January 2027. Across all existing Laserazor studios, there are 5.0 stars from 3,266 reviews on ProvenExpert and over 2,600 Google reviews. Make sure to read the written reviews that describe a full course of treatments.
When can I have the 0 € trial session in Düsseldorf?
From the opening in January 2027. Until then, you can join the waiting list on the studio's page, and we'll invite you to the first available appointments. The trial session includes a skin type check, test pulses, and a complete zone for 0 €, with no obligation to buy and no subscription.
Which hairs can no laser remove?
Grey, white, and light blonde hairs, because they lack the pigment that absorbs the energy. Red hair only responds partially. A good studio will tell you this before your first session and won't recommend a package that won't work for you.

¹ 'Permanent' means: after a complete series, no hair that the laser has reached will grow back in the treated zone. No laser can reach grey, white and very light hairs. Hormonal changes can trigger new growth, in which case a top-up session is usually enough.

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure; if you have skin conditions, take medications that increase light sensitivity, are pregnant or have unexplained hair growth, it makes sense to get medical advice first.
