Only this combination covers all skin types I–VI safely and effectively — anything else is a compromise. We work exclusively with dual-laser platforms (Lutronic Clarity II and DEKA Again Pro) and deliberately avoid single-wavelength devices.

Why the choice of device makes all the difference

When it comes to laser hair reduction, the result depends heavily on the device, alongside the practitioner's expertise. Professional laser systems are active class IIb medical devices under the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745) and differ in five critical dimensions: wavelength, maximum energy density (fluence), pulse duration, repetition rate and integrated skin cooling.

All these factors influence how reliably the device matches different skin and hair types, how comfortable the treatment is for you, and how predictable the results are across multiple sessions. A device that only uses one wavelength inevitably only covers part of the Fitzpatrick scale. A dual-laser platform with Alexandrit (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) objectively covers the entire spectrum — from very light (type I) to very dark skin (type VI).

We deliberately chose two platforms for our studios: the Lutronic Clarity II and the DEKA Again Pro. Both are dual-laser platforms. We don't use single-wavelength devices — they wouldn't live up to our promise of effectively treating all skin types.

Lutronic Clarity II — 755 nm Alexandrit & 1064 nm Nd:YAG

The Lutronic Clarity II combines both medically relevant wavelengths in one platform.

The Clarity II by South Korean manufacturer Lutronic is one of the most widely used premium platforms in Europe. The device is approved as a class IIb medical device and combines Alexandrit and Nd:YAG wavelengths in a single unit. Wavelengths are switched via a control on the handpiece — without changing devices or interrupting the session.

The Clarity II is our daily working platform in the Berlin studios. It's approved for Fitzpatrick types I to VI, and your practitioner selects the wavelength based on your skin type and treatment area.

DEKA Again Pro — dual-laser platform from Italy

The DEKA Again Pro also offers Alexandrit and Nd:YAG in one platform — with large spot sizes.

The DEKA Again Pro comes from the Italian manufacturer DEKA (El.En. Group) and is also a Class IIb dual-laser platform. It's used in our studios in München-Haidhausen and Augsburg. Technically, it follows a similar logic to the Clarity II, but relies on a different handpiece architecture and larger spot sizes for large treatment areas.

Cooling technology — three established principles compared

During the laser pulse, the epidermis briefly heats up due to the absorbed energy. Effective cooling serves two purposes: it noticeably reduces the sensation of heat for you and protects the top layer of skin from unnecessary thermal stress. This is especially relevant for skin types III–VI.

In our studios, we primarily work with external cold air cooling up to –30 °C. The cooling is coordinated with our handpieces and is consistently used during every session. It's impossible to say across the board which cooling system is "better" or "worse" — what matters is that it suits the laser system and is applied reproducibly.

Medical device class IIb & MDR

Since May 2021, the EU Medical Device Regulation MDR 2017/745 has been in effect. Lasers for hair removal are considered active therapeutic medical devices and fall under the IIb classification — medium risk potential. This has specific consequences:

  • CE marking required: the device may only be used in the studio with a valid declaration of conformity and testing by a notified body.
  • Documentation required: manufacturer documents, maintenance logs and safety checks must be kept on hand.
  • Vigilance reporting: serious incidents must be reported to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM).
  • Qualified staff: see NiSV in the next section.

NiSV — the specialist qualification for laser users

Since 1 January 2021, the Ordinance on Protection against Non-Ionising Radiation (NiSV) has regulated the use of cosmetic laser and IPL devices in Germany. Key regulations:

  • Proof of expertise: at least 120 teaching hours with a final exam at a recognised training centre.
  • Application documentation: medical history, parameter settings and aftercare are documented in writing.
  • Keep proof on hand: the specialist certificates must be available in the studio and shown to the authorities on request.

All practitioners at Laserazor have acquired this qualification — the certificates are visibly displayed in the studios. The NiSV isn't a hurdle, but a protection for you as a customer.
