By the way, shaving doesn't make hair thicker or darker. The blunt tip just makes it feel coarser.

Causes

Where female facial hair comes from.

Common reasons

Many women naturally have visible hairs on their upper lip and chin. This is often down to genetics. During the menopause, oestrogen levels drop, which often causes the hair there to grow thicker. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the thyroid and certain medications can also play a role.

When to get it checked out

If your hair suddenly grows denser or noticeably thicker, please get it checked by a doctor before starting treatment. You can read more about this in our articles on hormones and lasers and hirsutism.

Treatment

How the facial treatment works.

  1. Skin analysis. We check your skin and hair and tell you honestly whether the laser will work for you.
  2. About 10 minutes per treatment area. You'll wear protective goggles, and the cooling system protects your skin with every pulse.
  3. An appointment every 4 weeks. We usually plan 8 to 10 sessions for the face. If the hair growth is hormonal, you might need a few more.
  4. Between appointments. You can shave. Skip plucking, threading and waxing so the laser can still reach the root.

Where the laser reaches its limits

Light peach fuzz, blonde, grey and white hairs contain hardly any pigment and therefore barely react to the laser. In this case, electrolysis is the more suitable method, which we don't offer. You'll get a reliable assessment for free during your trial session.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people want to know.

For dark, pigmented hair, the laser is the method of choice. After 8 to 10 sessions, you'll generally see significantly less and finer hair growing back. For light and grey hair, electrolysis is the only option. You can read exactly what 'permanent' means under permanent hair removal.1
The upper lip costs 59 € for a single session and 37 € per session in a package of 10. That's 370 € or 30,84 € a month. The chin and cheeks cost the same, and the full face starts from 31,25 € a month.
No, plucking and shaving don't make your hair multiply or grow back thicker. However, frequent plucking can irritate the skin and cause ingrown hairs. If your hair is actually getting thicker, hormones might be the cause.
Hardly, because the laser needs pigment in the hair. That's why it has very little effect on blonde peach fuzz, as well as grey and white hair. During your trial session, we'll tell you honestly whether a treatment is worth it for you.
A specialist with NiSV certification carries out the treatment, and you'll wear protective goggles. Your skin might be slightly red afterwards. Avoid the sun and sunbeds for two weeks before and four weeks after your appointment. Moles should be checked by a dermatologist beforehand.
